Marsupial Lions roamed Australia more than 40,000 years ago. The last being Thylacoleo carnifex who was the largest carnivorous Australian mammal ever known, weighing more than 150 kilograms and measuring 1.5 metres in length. Its teeth were adept at slicing flesh and its powerful forearms and large retractable thumb claws evidence of a powerful predator.
Research suggests that in relation to their size, Marsupial Lions may have had the strongest bite of any mammal, living or extinct.
